Support and Activity Groups
Organized groups of homeschoolers are often called “support groups,” because the original intent of most was to offer moral support in a time when homeschooling was generally unknown to the public, and homeschoolers were sometimes treated with hostility.
Today’s support groups may offer field trips and other activities for families and co-op learning opportunities for homeschooling kids, as well as suggestions and advice on homeschooling. Most still offer moral support to new homeschoolers.
Some groups are coalitions of smaller local or specialized groups. Some are regional, national, or international, some are aimed at families of kids in a particular age group, some have a focus on a particular aspect of homeschooling. Some support groups are highly organized, with officers and formal meetings; others may be informal gatherings of families that will disband after their children are old enough to travel on their own.
This is a partial list of support groups available for home educating families throughout NJ. If you know a support group that you’d like to see added, please email

New Jersey Unschoolers
Yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NJ-Unschoolers/

Other than that we’re all pretty different. Please don’t assume we’re all on the same page regarding religion, politics, vaccination, breastfeeding, diet or anything else. If you are someone for whom veganism/the NT diet/Christianity/atheism/TCM/LOA or heck – ANYTHING – is so important that you have trouble getting through a single post without bringing it up, then you probably won’t fit in here. It’s not that we can’t discuss these things, or mention them, but sometimes people who are really passionate about something don’t realize when they have crossed the line into eye rollingly annoying. Please, just try and not go there, k?
